The Ionian Sea is the sea of Ulysses in Sicily. On its coast, Ulysses deceived the giant Polyphemus and blinded him to rescue most of his companions to continue their journey and, here the giant threw great boulders at them for revenge. These high boulders are the ancient description of the Faraglioni that still dot the sea of Acitrezza (marine protected area). They indicate the exact point where Etna originated around 500,000 years ago and are of considerable scientific value. These are also the waters of Aci and Galatea, the nymph Arethusa and other mythological characters. Ionian sea is legendary justified by its magical beauty.
